Giant Forest Green + Pink Mandala Rug Pattern

Gauge & Size

Gauge isn’t critical for rugs. With t-shirt yarn + 12mm hook, each round adds ∼4 inches. 15 rounds ≈ 60 inch / 5 ft diameter rug. Make more rounds for bigger.

Stitches Used

ch = chain

sl st = slip stitch

sc = single crochet

dc = double crochet

MR = magic ring

Pattern - Worked in rounds

Round 1: Color A. In MR, ch 3 counts as dc, 11 dc into ring. Join with sl st to top of ch-3. 12 dc

Round 2: Color A. Ch 3, dc in same st. 2 dc in each st around. Join. 24 dc

Round 3: Color B - switch to pink. Ch 3, 2 dc in next st, dc in next st, 2 dc in next st. Repeat from * around. Join. 36 dc

Round 4: Color A. Ch 3, dc in next st, 2 dc in next st, dc in next 2 st, 2 dc in next st. Repeat from * around. Join. 48 dc

Round 5: Color A. Ch 3, dc in next 2 st, 2 dc in next st, dc in next 3 st, 2 dc in next st. Repeat from * around. Join. 60 dc

Round 6: Color B. Ch 3, dc in next 3 st, 2 dc in next st, dc in next 4 st, 2 dc in next st. Repeat from * around. Join. 72 dc

Rounds 7-15+: Continue in Color A, adding 12 dc each round.

Formula: Ch 3, dc in next N st, 2 dc in next st, dc in next N+1 st, 2 dc in next st. Repeat. N = round number

Color changes: Do 1-2 pink rounds every 3-4 green rounds. Or make the last 2 rounds pink for a bold border.

Round 16 - Final border: Color B. Ch 1, sc in each st around for a flat edge. Or do sc, ch 1, skip 1 st for a picot edge. Join and weave in ends.

Tips to keep it flat:

Check often: If it ruffles, you have too many stitches. If it cups, too few. Frog back 1 round if needed.

Block it: Wet block or steam when done to help it lay perfectly flat.

Non-slip backing: Sew on rug grip fabric or add dots of silicone sealant to the back.
