How to Crochet Heart (flat)

Here’s a pattern that’ll give you the same look. This makes a heart ∼3 inches wide with worsted weight yarn + 4mm hook.

Red Flat Heart Crochet Pattern

Materials
Yarn: Red worsted weight cotton or acrylic
Hook: 4.0mm / G-6
Extras: Yarn needle, scissors

Abbreviations (US terms)
MR = magic ring
CH = chain
SC = single crochet
HDC = half double crochet
DC = double crochet
TR = treble crochet
SL ST = slip stitch
ST = stitch

Pattern
Start: Make a MR.
Round 1: CH 3 — counts as first DC. Work 11 DC into MR. Join with SL ST to top of CH 3. = 12 DC total DC
Round 2: CH 3, 1 DC in same ST. 2 DC in each ST around. Join with SL ST to top of CH 3. = 24 DC
Shape the heart:
Skip 1 ST, then in next ST work: 1 HDC, 1 DC
In next ST: 1 DC, 1 TR, 1 DC — this makes the first bump
In next ST: 1 DC, 1 HDC
SL ST in next 3 ST — this is the center dip
In next ST: 1 HDC, 1 DC
In next ST: 1 DC, 1 TR, 1 DC — second bump
In next ST: 1 DC, 1 HDC
Skip 1 ST, SL ST to bottom point to close.
Finish: Fasten off and weave in ends. Block it with a bit of steam if it curls.

Tips to match the photo
Tension: Keep it medium — too tight and it cups, too loose and it’s floppy.
Flat finish: After Round 2, that circle should lie completely flat. If it’s ruffling, go up a hook size. If it’s cupping, go down a hook size.
Clean edge: That last SL ST to the bottom point gives you the sharp V you see in the pics.
